Hi Everyone, my name is Paul Caporicci and I am the CEO of Precursor Games. After our first day of crowdfunding I am encouraged by the amount of support, but know we still have a long way to go to make this crowdfunding campaign a success.
Everyone at Precursor has been reading and participating on a variety of websites to get a sense of impressions on our campaign and I’d like to respond to some concerns.
What insurance do my contributions have?
Why no Kickstarter?
We really wanted to do a Kickstarter, but without a US presence it is proving to be very difficult. We are trying to make this a reality to give everyone more options to contribute.
Will past baggage have an effect on this project?
As many people can relate, being laid off is an emotionally distressing experience. When this happened to me, I was determined to turn this toward more positive ends. I began reaching out to others to see if they were interested in starting something brand new, using lessons learned from past experiences. Denis Dyack was my first choice for Creative, as he has a keen understanding on the creative aspects of game development. It saddens me to read that people’s impressions of him are painted by anonymous accounts of other individuals. I’ve known Denis for 10 years now, and from first hand experience I consider him to be one of the most honourable people I know, and undeserving of the amount of negative accusations he receives.
I knew Shawn Jackson’s attention to detail, enthusiasm and experience would really balance our management team as Chief Operating Officer. The rest of the Precursor team is equally talented, and I’m amazed by the results we’ve achieved with our demo. Precursor Games has been built from the ground up to do something new, and we are excited to show and work with you on our first project — “Shadows of the Eternals”.
How can you make a game with such as small team?
While there is only a core team at Precursor Games right now, everyone is hands-on in the development team. For example, I did the game programming for the demo. Obviously we do not expect to make this game by ourselves and we plan to hire accordingly, should our crowdfunding be successful.
How do episodic releases work?
The pilot episode requires more upfront costs to pay for engine license fees, system development and other pre-production tasks. We are anticipating future episodes to be significantly cheaper and faster to produce. A donation for the tiers that include multiple episodes is your investment on our ability to produce more episodes and we appreciate your trust and support.
What is your involvement with Nintendo?
We have been in constant communication with Nintendo, and they have been very supportive of our endeavour to bring this game to their platform.
What platform was the demo video created with?
The demo is running on a PC, but it is compatible with the Wii U. Since CryENGINE supports the Wii U, we do not expect substantial differences between the two versions.
At Precursor Games, we are looking for an opportunity to embark on an adventure of making this game together with our community. If you have any questions for me, please ask away via the Ask Precursor Games thread, or private message me via the forums!
